Choose an efficient room air purifier
An air purifier operated continuously can use more electricity than a new refrigerator. ENERGY STAR® qualified models use up to 40% less energy than conventional models, which means you will save on operating costs.
What to look for:
- The ENERGY STAR label. Qualified models are just as effective at removing dust, pollen, and other particles from the air, but use up to 40% less energy than conventional models. This means you'll save immediately on operating costs.
- A high Clean-Air Delivery Rate (CADR). CADR measures how quickly the filter cleans the air, and a higher number is better. Look for a CADR of at least 100.
- An appropriate size for your room.
- A High-Efficiency Particulate Air (HEPA) filter. This will catch even the finest particles. Note that HEPA filters must be replaced annually.
